Jim’s Sculpture Trail, also known as Jim’s Row of Machinery, began as a much-loved roadside attraction on Koolboo Road in South Kolan.
Created by local resident Jim Sauer, the collection featured vintage vehicles and farm machinery mounted in unexpected ways atop towering four-metre poles. Combining humour, creativity and engineering ingenuity, the display became a memorable landmark and a favourite subject for travellers and photographers.
Although the original roadside location no longer hosts the collection, the sculptures have been carefully preserved and given a new home at Mystery Craters.
Today, visitors can once again enjoy these remarkable pieces and appreciate the imagination and craftsmanship behind them.
As you explore the trail, take a moment to notice the character of each vehicle and the stories they represent. These weathered machines are reminders of earlier times and a tribute to the ingenuity and spirit of rural Australia.

Local resident Jim Sauer created the original display as a celebration of old machinery and the creativity that can give forgotten objects a new life. His gravity-defying sculptures became a distinctive landmark in the Bundaberg region and continue to delight visitors today.
